Darling Brew, founded in 2010, has taken South African craft beer to new heights by securing a groundbreaking cross-Atlantic partnership with Sunset Brew in Tijucas, SC Brazil. The expansion of the partnership was solidified at a Brazilian beer festival in Blumenau, SC with the launch of Darling Brew’s WarLord IPA – the first of many beers that will be brewed and soldin Brazil ,under licence on behalf of Darling Brew by Sunset Brew.
It all started with a simple collaboration of the Darling Brew Long Claw Modern Saison styled beer, inspired by the Panthera Leo, which was brewed in collaboration with Eduardo Petry of Sunset Brew. The Citra Single Dry Hop Saison has since gone on to become one of Darling Brew’s most loved, award-winning beers.
On 08 March 2017, Darling Brew’s WarLord Imperial IPA, inspired by the Black Rhino, was launched at Festival Brasileiro da Cerveja attended by over 40 000 Brazilian-local and international beer lovers.
The partnership between Darling Brew and Sunset Brew is a great step forward for the South African craft beer industry. “We are proud to be bringing the Darling Brew experience across the Atlantic,” says Kevin Wood, owner of Darling Brew, “we’ll be delivering a little piece of South Africa to the people of Brazil and that is something special.”
The award-winning Brazilian brewer James Jimenez and the entire Sunset Brew team visited Darling Brew to sample the beers, witness the brewing process and select the perfect combination of beers to return home with them, based on what they believed would provide the suitable sensory experience for the discerning beer drinkers of Brazil.
The launch of the WarLord in Brazil is sure to continue a long and fruitful partnership between Darling Brew and Sunset Brew, with plans to brew Sunset Brew beers on South African shores in the near future.
