Inspired by the Red Flanked Duiker
A MILD BITTERNESS WITH AROMAS OF TROPICAL CITRUS & A LIGHT TOAST FLAVOUR OF BISCUIT & CARAMEL
Pale amber lager with a unique twist. Faint red highlights are discernible, giving it it’s name. Specially hopped with a hop named Ella, to give it tropical and citrus aromas. A slight residual sweetness and a rounded bitterness. Doesn’t seem like much, but leaves a memory.
The Red Flanked Duiker
Rooibok is inspired by the red-flanked duiker. Considered rare in the context of South Africa, the red-flanked duiker is a small, stocky duiker with upper parts that are a deep chest-nut red. They are mostly confined to the eastern coastal forests in Kwa-Zulu Natal whilst isolated populations occur on the Mpumalanga escarpment. Their biggest threat is over-hunting for the purpose of serving the bushmeat trade. Keeping Rooibok’s aesthetic true to its name and the animal which inspired it, the colour of the beer has distinctive faint red highlights.
Brewed in honour of owner Kevin Wood’s late sister, best paired with one of her favourite songs: “Romeo and Juliette by The Killers”
